Review:
An excellent book for researchers
If you cannot find a copy of this book I would say try, Soil Behavior and Critical State Soil Mechanics by D.M. Wood. If you do find a copy, expect to give it few readings before you understand it.
I happened to attend a workshop on critical state soil mechanics in 1977 at NC State taught by Professor C.P. Wroth, coauthor of the book. The graceful clarity that I discovered in his lectures is not seen the book. I believe the book was purposely made hard to read so only a few would venture into the newly created field.
First published in 1968, the book has served a pupose. Engineers of the new century would need a current book -- a book that will teach them how to take the Roscoe and Burland's Cam Clay model into the practice of engineering. The model did not exist in 1968.
If you are new to the field, the book is not for you. Try a more elementary exposition on the subject.
